Project 6

Incorporating Images

Here I demonstrate the melding of two entirely different images. The first two are the originals and the last is the compliation of the other two. The third has a link to a larger image of the montage.

Ballerina + Construction

I found these two incongruous images. When I looked at the construction photo, I saw an empty space and went hunting for a ballerina to fill the stage. There were some serendipidous features connecting these photos before I began. Although the construction light source is really from the right, the image is mostly dark and backlit. There is a patch of triangular light to the left corner on the ground. The ballerina's light source is from the left. However, because of the brighter light on the left side of the construction area, her skirt and arm almost look as if they are thrust into that light. I tried her flipped to match the proper light source and it didn't really work. The leaves above, building edge and dark area at the bottom, make a natural frame for the dancer. Also there are some indentations in the sand which look like they could have been caused by her ballet shoe. After I put them together, I wondered what the text would say. What could a delicate ballerina and a carport under construction have in common? Click the last photo to find out!

Spirals + Fixing Something

I created this spiral in a fractal program. It took me quite some time to make the selection, and I had to go down to pixel level. It was exactly the right size as the photo of the man fixing something. The main swirl landed right at the focal point of the tool. The division of spirals to the left creates a negative space just the right size and shape that repeats the angle made by the-ah, well, the man's derriere. I changed the background color a bit. I applied several filters to the swirl and finally made it somewhat transparent so it would not dominate the photo. I also had to isolate the man and place him over the spiral. I chose a rather husky masculine looking font.

Property + Snake

When I looked at the background photo, I wanted to make something creeping out of the corner where the buildings meet. Somehow a snake seemed to fit the bill. I did alter the colors of the snake to make the colors more intense. And the text speaks for itself!
